This week’s featured vendor is Fred Farms of Dunkirk. This farm was started by Roberto and Milagro Fred in 1990, on Temple Road. They began with 400 acres, mostly producing grapes. Over the years, they have changed the focus of their production to stay attuned to an ever-changing market picture. These days, in addition to their fields, their six greenhouses have expanded the scope of their produce to include oranges and bananas!

90%  of the produce the Freds sell is homegrown. If you drive out Temple Road between Willow Road & the railroad tracks, you see some of the fields of tomatoes, other vegetables, & blueberry bushes that this hardworking family raise.

In the near future, the addition of a commercial kitchen will expand their product base to include preserves & canned goods.

Roberto is one of seven brothers, who had the good fortune to marry seven sisters.  He & Milagro have five children, who all  have found success in professional lives.

Fred Farms is present at five farmer’s markets locally, in addition to the Temple Rd. stand, which is open seven days a week.

Stop down at FFM on Saturdays, or visit the Fred Farm on Temple Rd to meet Roberto & Millie , & experience their family-grown  goodies!

Stay tuned: next week’s featured vendors – Milagro & Roberto Fred.  Sept 8 we will have live music & food demos

Great news! The village has approved our request to create 2 temporary handicapped parking spots for our market patrons. These will be marked & available during market hours. The spaces will be in the “no parking here to corner” spots on Day St. on either side of Church St.

This week’s featured vendors are Richard & Marcia Feinen.  They have been a fixture at a number of local farmers markets for many years. Seeing their old red truck traveling into town on Saturday mornings, laden with produce & flowers, is an apt illustration of the old phrase “the fruits of their labors”.

The farm has been in the Feinen family for three generations. Dick’s grandfather emigrated from Germany & began farming in Sheridan. When Dick graduated from school in 1963, he went into the business with his father & brothers. He has been working the 200-acre farm on his own since 1980. Dick & Marcia have three children, two daughters in the medical profession, & a son who is the Sheridan Highway Superintendent.

The Feinen farm produces everything from apricots to zucchini. All seedlings are started in their own greenhouses. In addition to selling at multiple farmer’s markets, the Feinens  have a stand at the farm on the corner of Rts. 20 & 39.

Whether you shop at Farmer’s Market , or visit the stand, whether you need one tomato or are ready to can, Dick & Marcia & their employees would love to serve you!IMG_0547.JPG
